Greg Gillette

Program Director and Head Coach

Email: [email protected]

Greg Gillette joined ASL as Program Director in November of 2019. Since his arrival, the club has grown from 130 athletes to over 400 athletes, and ASL has quickly risen in the State and National rankings.

Coach Greg is a firm believer in taking a methodic, patient approach to developing athletes from the younger ages into the senior levels of the sport. Throughout this process, the ownership of the sport is transferred from the parents/coaches to the athletes, to create an athlete focused, athlete driven environment. He also strives to make sure each athlete has options in training to have purposeful sessions that allow athletes to achieve the goals they've set.

He comes to Augusta after five years working with Bluefish Swim Club in New England, and stops in Los Angeles, Seattle and Chicago, where he's worked with numerous athletes and coaches who've reached the highest levels of this sport.

He is looking forward to another season of growth, development and achievement in 2025-2026!!!

Noah Ayers

Assistant Coach - Augusta

Email: [email protected]

Noah joined ASL in 2022 after coaching for five years in Southern California. He believes in a patient approach to an athlete's long term development through skill mastery, goal setting, and ownership of sport. Noah believes in teaching "the why" in his methods as well as how to do them properly. He looks forward to an exciting year full of fast swimming and great accomplishments!

Besides his swim coaching career, Noah has held multiple internships as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for different athletic teams. While swimmers are his favorite group of athletes, Noah has worked with Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball, Baseball and Water Polo programs. He has also been a mechanical engineer and has had the opportunity to travel across the United States because of his work.

Steven Mills

Assistant Coach - Augusta

Email: [email protected]

Coach Steven is joining ASL after 3 years serving as the head age group coach and head coach of the CCA Marlins in Virginia. Steven began his coaching career at his local summer league team during his sophomore year of high school, and has only increased his love for coaching since then. As a coach, he has had a wealth of experience coaching swimmers at every level including summer league, high school, club, and even college swimming.

Coach Steven graduated college with a BS in Exercise Science with specialization in therapeutic sciences. Steven enjoys challenging swimmers to find new and more efficient ways to move through the water through drills, resistance, and equipment that challenges swimmers to find "the feel" of the water. Coach Steven believes that happy and engaged swimmers are fast swimmers, and aims to create unique practices every day that encourage swimmers to think hard, race harder, and find their love of swimming.

He is looking forward to helping the team continue to grow in its success!

Lance Knowles

Site Director / Aiken

Email: [email protected]

A former competitive swimmer, Lance proudly represented the Bahamas. Unfortunately, his swimming career was cut short due to injury, but his passion for the sport never waned. These days, he finds fulfillment in coaching and helping young athletes develop their swimming abilities.

Lance's patience, and ability to motivate others shine through in his coaching. He's committed to nurturing the next generation of swimmers, instilling important values like discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in his athletes.

Beyond coaching, Lance remains deeply involved in the swimming community. He competes at Masters events, and stays up-to-date with the latest developments in the sport. His enthusiasm keeps him connected to the water, even when he's not on the pool deck.

Lance's life extends beyond the lanes. He's a devoted family man, happily married to his wonderful wife, Adrienne. Their dynamic household includes two energetic sons who keep them on their toes, along with three equally lively dogs. Whether it's a weekend backpacking trip or a cozy evening at home, family time is precious to Lance.

Since joining ASL in 2024, she has been based at the Aiken facility and now serves as the Lead Coach for the Local Racing Squads(LRS), overseeing training and development across both ASL sites.

Melanie Gray

LRS Coach - Augusta

Coach Melanie has been a member of the Augusta swimming community for her entire life! She started swimming with the Montclair Makos in the CSRA Swim League at age 7, later competing for the Fort Gordon Swim Team and Westside High School.

Since high school, Melanie has steadily worked her way up the swimming safety ladder. From lifeguard to water safety and lifeguard instructor, eventually training instructors herself. She has also taught swim lessons, coached a local summer league team, and even coached for ASL in the early 2000s

In her "non-swimming life" she has worked as an EMT, in EMS dispatch and as a medical assistant. Coach Melanie is thrilled to return to coaching for ASL, especially because one of her favorite moments is seeing the big smiles on kids’ faces when they finally master a skill they’ve been working hard to achieve. She looks forward to helping ASL's newest swimmers crush their goals and celebrate every step of their progress.
